KISSed OFF

When Peter Criss left KISS Eric Carr joined (and brought a thundering drum sound!) and he got his own make-up, the Fox. Ace followed Peter and Vinnie Vincent was brought on board with his Ankh make-up.
On a side note ‘Creature of the Night’ is the most Heavy Metal album KISS ever released. It is solid from beginning to end, even the ballad kicks ass. ‘Lick it Up’ was another Heavy Metal album, but it was with ‘Animalize’ that they sadly started to drift into pop-metal territory.
Anyway…my point is new members got their own identities. Gene and Paul didn’t try to pass off the new members as something they weren’t.
Well the re-union happened, Ace and Peter were back and everyone was wearing the right make-up. Not long after that however; Gene pretty much forced those dudes out of the band again and they were replaced by Eric Singer (ex-KISS, Lita Ford, Alice Cooper) and Tommy Thayer (ex-Balck N’ Blue and some KISS cover band). And this is where the problems start…
Look, I think everyone knows Gene is an asshole, that’s a given. But, this takes it to a new level…They tried (and are still trying) to pass these imposters off as the personas of Ace and Peter. They don the beloved make-up of these original members of the band! Sacrilege! Bullshit!
My buddy Travis went to see scab KISS a few years ago and like many fans do he wore his KISS make-up to the show. My observation was “dude…You dressed up like Tommy Thayer for the show!” He wasn’t he stoked, but he wasn’t Ace and the guy on the stage wasn’t Ace.
Somewhere in the timeline of KISS related events I decided I would never pay to see them again.
And then …’The Tour’ is announced. MOTLEY CRUE and KISS on stage, one night. One helluva expensive ticket. Can I pay just to see MOTLEY CRUE? Too bad…See MOTLEY is my fucken’ jams yo! I am going…So I might as well stay for KISS, the songs are still there. It’s just actors going through the motions…Put my petty bullshit aside and enjoy the show…Right?
I listened to 128 MOTLEY CRUE songs yesterday. I am buying tickets today.
“Be strong and Shout at the Devil!”
